GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Sumner REALTORS® is the professional outlet for more than 900 members to amplify their collective voice and influence laws, rules and regulations that affect the real estate industry.
The association monitors legislative and regulatory activity at the city and county level and engages members when important issues arise so that REALTORS® have an opportunity to lead public discourse on property rights and homeownership. We also work closely with Tennessee REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® to engage members and coordinate advocacy efforts on state and federal issues.
ADVOCACY GOALS
Support public policies that advance Fair Housing principles and create more vibrant and diverse communities, and promote a healthy business environment for real estate professionals.
Defeat measures that are counter to the REALTOR® core principles or threaten to erode a competitive business climate.
Hold elected officials accountable when they are making important decisions that directly affect REALTORS®, their businesses and their clients.
While not all REALTORS® have the time or interest to get heavily involved in politics, the association offers several ways for members to stay informed and help improve the real estate profession.
-
Government Affairs Committee
A small group of local members serving on this standing committee monitor local government activity and engage staff and volunteers on advocacy initiatives.
-
Local Legislative Updates
Sumner REALTORS® organizes and hosts a breakfast after each legislative session for members to hear a recap of notable activity in the General Assembly and interact directly with the state legislators who represent their communities.
-
Days on the Hill
Local members visit Capitol Hill in Nashville or the Tennessee Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C. during NAR’s annual legislative meetings to meet with lawmakers and discuss important property rights issues. These events are organized in partnership with Tennessee REALTORS® and NAR and are the largest advocacy-related events each year.

RPAC
Our association supports and participates in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC), a non-partisan political action committee organized to support the election or re-election of candidates for public office who share the ideals and principles of REALTORS®. RPAC for more than 50 years has been one of the strongest and most successful advocacy organizations in the nation. Members’ voluntary investments in RPAC help REALTORS® build relationships with policy decisionmakers in city halls across Sumner County, the statehouse in Nashville and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Local members contribute funds to RPAC in accordance with federal and state laws, and campaign contributions are allocated to candidates who are committed to defending fair and affordable housing.
